How do I open an archive?

Drop it on the Bragueta window or on its Dock icon, double-click it if Bragueta is your default archive app, or press the space bar on it in the Finder for a Quick Look preview. Opening is instant whatever the size — Bragueta reads the index without decompressing anything.

How do I preview a file without extracting it?

Double-click it in the file list, or select it and press the space bar. Images, audio, video, PDFs and text open right inside the window, straight from the archive. Text files can even be edited and saved back without unpacking anything.

How do I extract only one file?

Select it in the list and choose Extract Selected, or press ⌘E. Only that file is decompressed. In archives that are not solid, this is far faster than extracting everything.

What is the safety inspection, and why does it warn me?

Before writing anything, Bragueta checks the archive for entries that would escape the folder you chose, symbolic links pointing elsewhere on your disk, decompression bombs, names disguised with invisible characters, and files that would collide with each other on macOS. Every warning explains what it found, and nothing dangerous is written unless you explicitly allow it. The inspection is free and always available.

Why can’t I create a RAR archive?

Because it is not legal for us to. The RAR format is proprietary, and the unRAR licence — the one that lets Bragueta read RAR files — explicitly forbids using it to build software that creates RAR-compatible archives. Bragueta opens RAR archives, including encrypted and multi-volume ones, and converts them to 7z or ZIP when you need to repack.

My archive asks for a password and I don’t have it

There is nothing Bragueta or anyone else can do. AES-256 without the password is not recoverable, and an app claiming otherwise is selling you a lie. Ask whoever made the archive.

How do I password-protect an archive?

Choose the 7z format when compressing and enter a password. Tick Encrypt file names as well if you don’t want the list of contents readable without it. The password option exists only for 7z: if you pick another format it switches off, because ZIP’s own encryption is weak and the other formats have none.

What is free, and what does the full version add?

Free forever, with no account and no time limit: opening, browsing, previewing, extracting, the safety inspection, searching by name, identifying a file, and the checksum of any single file.

A single one-time purchase adds creating archives, AES-256 encryption, converting between formats, splitting into volumes, searching inside file contents, comparing two archives, the breakdown by file type, exporting reports, the Finder menu and the Shortcuts actions. There is no subscription.

How does the 7-day trial work?

Everything in the full version is free for seven days, and the clock starts only when you choose Start My 7 Days — on the welcome screen, or in the purchase window. Nothing is charged at any point unless you buy. When the seven days end, everything that was free before stays free.

Where do I find the full version, and how do I buy?

In the menu bar, Bragueta › Unlock Full Version…. It is also in Settings (⌘,) › Full Version, at the bottom of the window when no archive is open, and anything that needs the full version takes you there too. The purchase window shows the price in your currency before anything is bought.

I bought it on another Mac. How do I unlock it here?

Choose Bragueta › Restore Purchase in the menu bar, signed in with the same Apple Account you bought it with.

The Finder menu doesn’t appear

Open System Settings › General › Login Items & Extensions, find the Finder extensions, and turn on Bragueta. macOS keeps Finder extensions off until you enable them.

Why is searching inside contents paid, when searching by name is free?

Because they are not the same job. Searching by name reads the index that is already in memory and answers as you type. Searching inside the contents opens and decompresses every text file in the archive: it is the expensive one, and it is one of the things you buy. Nothing you need to open your own files, or to be warned that an archive is dangerous, is ever behind the purchase.

What do the checksums actually prove?

A CRC catches a file damaged in transit. It proves nothing against someone who changed the file on purpose — for that you need SHA-256 or better. Bragueta prints that distinction next to every value, and in the exported report too.

Does Bragueta send anything anywhere?

No. The app ships without the network entitlement, so macOS itself prevents it from connecting to anything. No analytics, no crash reports, no licence checks. See the privacy policy.

Is there a licence agreement?

Bragueta is covered by Apple’s standard Licensed Application End User License Agreement, the same one that applies to apps on the App Store unless they state otherwise.

How do I request a refund?

Purchases are processed by Apple. You can request a refund at reportaproblem.apple.com.
