Keyboard Cleaning Lock — frequently asked questions.
Press and hold all four keys at the same time for one second: left ⇧ Shift + left ⌘ Command + right ⌘ Command + right ⇧ Shift. The combination is always shown on screen, and each key lights up as it's detected.
The lock always releases itself automatically after the time you chose before starting (2 minutes by default, configurable from 1 minute to 7 days). A countdown is shown on screen. As a last resort, holding the power button always lets you shut down the Mac.
Those keys are handled directly by macOS and cannot be intercepted by App Store apps. Keyboard Cleaning Lock compensates: media playback keys are captured while locked, and your volume setting is restored when you unlock.
