Privacy Policy

Exhume, for Mac, iPhone and iPad. Effective 9 September 2026.

We do not collect your data

Exhume has no analytics, no crash reporting, no telemetry, no advertising identifiers, no account and no licence server. Nothing about you is collected, stored or transmitted — not to us, and not to anyone else.

This is not a promise we ask you to take on trust. There is not one line in Exhume that opens a network connection of its own, and a check runs over its five hundred-odd source files on every change to keep it that way.

Your files stay yours

Exhume opens the text, code and document files you choose, and only those. Their contents, their names, and anything derived from them — the structure it finds, the languages it detects, the symbols it lists — are computed on your device and never leave it.

It does not scan or index your disk. On the Mac, every folder it reads comes from a file dialog you drove. On iPhone and iPad it uses the system document browser, so it can only see what you hand it.

Two things Exhume writes on your device, both local and both yours to delete: a copy of unsaved work, so a crash does not cost you your typing, and a short list of recently opened files so it can offer them again. Neither is ever sent anywhere.

The one thing that does use the network

Exhume Pro is sold through the App Store, and an app that sells something has to let Apple’s own StoreKit framework ask for its prices and check the purchase. That request is made by Apple’s code on your device, we never see it, and it carries nothing about you that Apple does not already have.

That is the only reason Exhume is signed with the network entitlement, and it is the only network traffic the app can cause. If you never open the purchase screen, it never happens.

Purchases

In-app purchases and subscriptions are processed entirely by Apple. We never see or store your payment details, your Apple Account, or your name. What we receive from Apple is aggregate sales reporting: how many of each product sold, in which country. Apple’s handling of your data is described in Apple’s Privacy Policy.

Whether you have bought Exhume Pro is decided on your device, by asking the operating system for the purchases signed to your Apple Account. There is no server of ours involved, and no profile of you anywhere.

iCloud

If you keep your documents in iCloud Drive, they sync through your own iCloud account, between your own devices, under Apple’s terms. We have no access to them and no part in it.

Children

Exhume is a text editor and collects nothing from anyone, of any age.

Changes

If this policy ever changes, the updated version will be posted on this page with a new effective date. We will not start collecting data without saying so here first.
